General

We depart from Kotor and proceed towards Herceg Novi. Its stark medieval fortifications share the streets with gentle Venetian and Austrian-style facades and the menacing slopes of Mount Orjen in the distance are offset by the verdure of palms and fig trees down by the sea. Our first stop will be the complex of the Monastery Savina, located 2 km east of Herceg Novi in the unique ambience of Mediterranean vegetation. It consists of two churches dedicated to the ascension the Virgin, the monastery dormitory with the treasury and the church of St. Sava, separated at a nearby hill.

Then we go to Old Town where you will be able to see huge number of attractions, monuments and objects of cultural heritage. Many of these historical monuments deserve special attention. For example, one of the main symbols of the city is the clock tower “Sahat Kula” or “Sat Kula”, which translates as “Clock Tower”.

Visit the fortress called Španjola by the local population, retained its name up to nowadays, even though the Turks rebuilt it around 1539 – 1548, at the place where the Spanish built it, briefly conquering the city from 1538 to 1539, destroying at this place a smaller Turkish fort. The fortress of Španjola is situated on the northwestern side of the city at an altitude of 170 meters and dominates the entrance to the Bay of Boka. It offers a wide-ranging view of the vast territory.

Enjoy walking  along  promenade of Herceg Novi called “Five Danica”, in the length of 6 kilometers. The promenade is named after the names of five Danica, five young girls who bravely fought and died in World War II.

After brief walking tour we proceed to port Škver. We continue the tour with boat ride to Mamula Island which was a prison during WWII, and along the Luštica Peninsula to the Blue Cave. It’s called the Blue Cave because the way the light hits the sandy bottom and reflects up through the water makes the whole cave look blue. The ceiling is about 9m high so there is plenty of room for boat to come in. The tour boat will come and give you chance to explore this unusual place.

Then we go to Village of Rose – a cozy fishing hamlet with a picturesque port . It manages to convey a true sense of serene solitude and tranquility. There you will have a break for lunch. After lunch we will go back to port Škver and drive back to Kotor.
